Day Trip: Destination Newport Beach (Orange County)

kids snacking- balboa island

This past weekend Max told me he would like to go on a road trip – somewhere south of Los Angeles. San Diego is almost 2 hours away so I had to figure somewhere to go in between here and there. There was a professional volleyball tournament in Huntington Beach, but we had one recently in Manhattan Beach as well. I kept thinking and decided it would be a fun to go a little further south than Huntington Beach – so we went to the beach town of Newport Beach.

It was my third trip ever to Newport Beach so I had to spend some time doing internet research prior. After coming up with directions and a few activities I was ready! Newport Beach was incorporated in 1906 and is a rather affluent town. They have a rather large harbor as well so you are going to see many boats in the harbor in addition to the beach.

Our visit consisted of two stops – the beach near the pier and Balboa Island which Max compared to a cleaner Venice, Italy. We were amazed by all the beautiful houses and boats (ranging from yachts to sailboats) that we saw. I suggested that we return next year here for a weekend getaway. For now I leave you with photos of some of what we saw walking the beach and Balboa Island.
